American Band Ephemeral Sun to play at Progday 2012

Ephemeral Sun
American rock band Ephemeral Sun has been added to the ProgDay 2012 lineup. The annual progressive rock festival will take place on Saturday, September 1st, and Sunday, September 2nd, at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Started as a project featuring former Rain Fell Within members John Battema (keyboards) and Charles Gore (bass), Ephemeral Sun began life as a Virginia-based vocal band with an atmospheric and experimental approach to prog-metal. Their first album, Broken Door, was released in 2004. Nonetheless, with the release of their second album, Harvest Aorta (2010), the band abandoned vocals and found their musical identity in a type progressive rock combining influences from symphonic, heavy metal, ambient, electronica and fusion, presented with a strong, almost cinematic vision.

Band members include John Battema on synthesizers, Brian O’Neill on guitar, Charlie Gore on bass and Jeff Malone on drums.

Ephemeral Sun has been compared to progressive rock bands like like Anekdoten, Pink Floyd, Camel and Finch, hard rock band Porcupine Tree, and heavy metal band Dream Theater, but the group continues to pursue its unique sound.

Ephemeral Sun will join Accordo Dei Contrari (Italy), Birdsongs of The Mesozoic (US) and Karcius (Canada) at ProgDay 2012, the 18th edition of the longest running progressive rock festival in the world.
