Crimen Sonoro (independent release, 2014)

Mexican band Troker defies musical boundaries. They recently showcased at world music expo WOMEX 2014 in Spain. However, what you hear on the band’s latest album Crimen Sonoro is pretty far removed from world music. The brass section has some mariachi influence, but the first piece takes you to what sounds like a mix of jazz and ‘rock in opposition’, featuring a powerful rhythm section. Throughout the album you will also find elements of funk, lounge and jazz-rock fusion.

We wrote this music to be played live. The tunes connect with the audiences,” explains bassist Samo González. “Concerts are about the energy flow, taking the waves from low to high, and that ride is what we tried to capture on the album.”

We try to make it fresh, but never obvious,” says trumpeter Gil. “Elaborate, but still simple enough to make people dance. We put odd things together and see what happens.”

Troker’s Crimen Sonoro features a hybrid mix of jazz, rock and roots with a brass section that takes the listener in unexpected directions.
