Swedish band Katatonia will release a concert film titled Sanctitude on March 30th in the UK, March 31st in the USA & Canada, and April 3rd in Germany.
In September 2013, British label Kscope released Dethroned & Uncrowned, a reworking of Katatonia’s 2012 epic Dead End Kings (originally released on Kscope’s sister label Peaceville). Dethroned & Uncrowned gave Katatonia the chance to explore a more progressive sound, creating new moods and textures while still staying truthful to the essence of the original songs.
Katatonia took Dethroned & Uncrowned on tour in Europe for the first time in May 2014 under the title ‘Unplugged & Reworked’. They performed an intimate acoustic evening, playing tracks from the album together with reconstructed atmospheric classics from their entire career. Each venue, on the tour, was carefully chosen for its distinctive atmosphere. They were joined on guitar and vocals by The Pineapple Thief frontman and songwriter Bruce Soord.
Sanctitude is a concert film shot and recorded in the striking candle-lit setting of London’s Union Chapel. The 80-minute selection includes 17 songs across the albums The Great Cold Distance, Viva Emptiness, Brave Murder Day, Last Fair Deal Gone Night and Dead End Kings / Dethroned & Uncrowned, including fan favorite ‘Teargas’. The concert closes with ‘The One You Are Looking For Is Not Here’ and a special guest appearance by Norwegian vocalist Silje Wergeland of celebrated Dutch band The Gathering.
“As a band we set out on uncharted waters but while apprehensive about the journey ahead our intentions couldn’t have been more genuine to undertake this beautiful experience,” says Katatonia’s Anders Nystrom. “Sailing this project into harbor turned out to be bliss and has ultimately enriched all the members of Katatonia.”
