Magma

Rïah Sahïltaahk (Seventh Records, 2014)

The masters of exploratory progressive rock have updated one of their early pieces titled Rïah Sahïltaahk, originally recorded in 1971 that appeared on the album 1001°C. At the time, band leader and composer Christian Vander, was unsatisfied with the arrangement written by the band. The new adaptation is tailored to the current format of the band and its vocalists.

The Rïah Sahïltaahk of 2015 is a mini album that has a vibrant electro-acoustic sensibility, featuring Magma’s trademark mix of progressive rock, classical music, freeform and avant-garde jazz with operatic, choral and dreamy vocals.

The lineup on Rïah Sahïltaahk includes Stella Vander on vocals; Isabelle Feuillebois on vocals; Hervé Aknin on vocals; Benoît Alziary on vibraphone; James Mac Gaw on guitar; Jérémie Ternoy on piano;
Philippe Bussonnet on bass; Christian Vander on drums, vocals, and piano.

Rïah Sahïltaahk is the name of a Kobaïan, an inhabitant of the imaginary planet created by Magma. The lyrics are in Kobaian with French translations.

Rïah Sahïltaahk showcases the talent of one of the seminal progressive rock bands of our time.
