“Paint the Dark” (2014)
Farpoint is a veteran band that is added to the progressive family by some music critics. What you hear on “Paint the Dark” is well-crafted folk rock with pop leanings and occasional hard rock outpourings.
The prog rock connections appear in some of the guitar solos and on the longest piece, “Vision Quest” which features great keyboard and guitar work, a sort of folk-rooted progressive rock. Later, the piece morphs into a hop a long country beat.
The lineup on “Paint the Dark” includes Dean Hallal on vocals, rhythm guitar and percussion; Kevin Jarvis on acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, mandolin and vocals; Abby Thompson on vocals and piano; Frank Tyson on bass guitar, baritone guitar, electric guitar and vocals; and Rick Walker on Drums and Percussion. Guests are Christi Hunter Brownlow on violin and Jennifer Meeks Weich on flute.
