Life Flows Water (Spotted Peccary, 2015)
This electronic music collaboration brings together two musicians that are passionate about electronic music. Synthesist Howard Givens is the founder of Spotted Peccary Music, one of the few labels out there releasing progressive electronica. Craig Padilla is a California musician that is deeply inspired by the Berlin-style of electronic music (Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, Michael Hoenig, etc.)
Although released in 2015, Life Flows Water was recorded live at Control Voltage in Portland (Oregon) in March 2013. The two synthesists envelop the listener with expansive flowing synth atmospheres while crystalline melodies and substrata sequences progress along, creating a hypnotic sensation taking the listener into a timeless dreamtime land that is deeply satisfying and meditative.
The two musicians used an arsenal of electronic music instruments, ranging from memorable vintage and modular synthesizers to current digital keyboards.
“We had been waiting to perform live together for quite some time,” says Padilla about the project. “Finally, due to numerous life changing events, the opportunity to create and perform new music had arrived and once we got started, the music continuously and effortlessly flowed from our hands and into the synthesizers; two collaborative energies finding a common singularity of creation. The music describes this creative moment perfectly: getting lost and found in the present moment; taking an inward journey to communicate with the soul.”
Life Flows Water is an exquisite example of how space music has progressed into the 21st century.
