Lucid Dream – “The Great Dance of the Spirit”

Lucid Dream – The Great Dance of the Spirit

Found another great Italian progressive/metal band to enjoy. Lucid Dream is back with their fourth album, The Great Dance of The Spirit. The album is “a concept based on research for the subtle energetic dimensions of the ‘Great Spirit’. It’s the third and final chapter of the trilogy started with The Eleventh Illusion and OtherworldlyThe Great Dance of The Spirit is a voyage at the borders of the universe”.

Lucid Dream is made up of: Simone Terigi, on guitars; Roberto Tiranti, on bass and vocals; Karl Faraci, on lead vocals; Paolo “Paolo” Tixi, on drums; and Luca Scherani, on keyboards. Roberto Tiranti, (Labyrinth, Wonderworld, Ken Hensley) sings vocals on tracks 4, 6, 10, 11, 12.

The album also includes an exceptional string trio composed of Andrea Cardinale on first violin, (virtuoso Paganini performed all over the world), Sara Calabria on viola and Rachele Rebaudengo on cello.

The album was composed and produced by Simone Terigi and mixed at Tabasco Studio, Sori, Italy by Lucid Dream and Nicola Sannino. Mastering was done by Simone Mularoni at Domination Studio, in the Republic of San Marino.

The graphics were developed by Nicoletta Mignone. The Great Dance of The Spirit, was released on March 10th, 2020, via Sliptrick Records.

This is a magnificent album of solid rock, metal, and progressive riffs. Lucid Dream does a great job of bringing metal and progressive rock together to tell an interesting story of how a character can achieve the refined sense of divine energy. Each song describes the development of the protagonist and his ability to understand the eternal manifest of divine energy.

All of the songs are full of powerful bass, Dream Theater like lead electric guitar, great drumming and Karl Faraci singing. Faraci’s vocals are hard to compare, but maybe similar to Klaus Meine, of the Scorpions, with an accent. He sings very well and lifts his voice at the right moments on each track.

My favorite tracks are: “By My Side”, which is one of the best songs on the album; full of keyboards and Faraci’s best vocals.

“Desert Glass”, is great.

“Moving Sands”, is a deep song full of inspiration that ends too quickly.

“A Dress of Light” has a fantastic opening, full of cool electric guitar and keyboards, before crushing drums and heavy bass. Faraci’s vocals are great here too, “Great spirit, hear me, I need you, tell me how to reach you, to love without fear, make me wise”.

“The Realm of Beyond”, is full of wonderful guitar at the opening. A great song filled with strings and cello. Like a Kansas mini opera filled with violin and viola. Excellent. It also has an epic and climactic ending!

“Golden Silence”, starts as a musical letter to their parents, opening with acoustic guitar, followed later by a powerful electric guitar solo. Very deep, expressive lyrics.

“Invisible Stranger”, is another great lyrical moment for this band. Warm vocals, lit with cello and electric guitar. A powerful written message, “we are sound of the eternal”. Beautiful keys and slow electric guitar trail off like a page from Rush’s “2112”.

The closer “Wakan Tanka”, is full of soft acoustic guitar, bass and Roberto Tiranti repeating the song’s title…soft drums following on.

This album has a wonderful balance between hard rock, metal and melodic rock. A deep spiritual journey captured with music and emotion, full of thought-provoking lyrics. Please get this album, put on your headphones, relax and enjoy the journey.

  1. Hi,
    just a little question.
did you really heard the album?

    my name is Roberto Tiranti
    lead vocals of bands like:
    Labyrinth
    Lead vocals of:
    Ken Hensley & Live Fire
    Wonderworld
    Mangala Vallis

I don’t wanna necessary put the blame on you but the differences in terms of sound and style between me and Faraci(a very talented singer anyway anyhow) are absolutely clear… different timbre different style.

for your information on this GREAT album I sing the lead parts of:

    INVISIBLE STANGER
    WAKAN TANKA
    MOVING SAND
    A DRESS OF LIGHT
    spoken part on
    PRAYER FOR THE GREAT SPIRIT

    THANK YOU
    for your kind attention
    r.
