Acclaimed electronic music trailblazer Steve Roach has received a Grammy nomination in the Best New Age Album category for his Spiral Revelation (Projekt Records) album.
Steve Roach is a pioneer in the development of ambient and tribal electronic music. He is exceptionally prolific, with a discography of over 125 albums. Iconic recordings include Structures from Silence and Dreamtime Return.
German progressive rock and electronic music guitarist, keyboardist and composer Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock died October 14th, 2017 of kidney failure.
Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock was born January 30, 1951 in Duisburg, Germany. In 1971 he formed a psychedelic rock band called Impuls. During the 1970s, Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock experimented with electronic keyboards and built his own studio.
In the early 1980s, Hoffmann-Hoock co-founded the band Cosmic Hoffmann. In 1982, Hoffmann-Hoock traveled to India. His music started to incorporate Asian influences from India and Bali.
In 1986, Hoffmann-Hoock founded Mind Over Matter, an iconic band that mixed electronica with music of the Far East. Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock played electric guitar and keyboards, as well Indian sitar.
Mind Over Matter released 12 recordings with various lineups.

Theta Three is the third album by the Orchestra of the Upper Atmosphere. It’s a captivating group of musicians that combine trance-like electronic music, progressive rock, jazz-rock fusion and avant-garde classical music through improvisation.

Progressive rock band Djam Karet has released another gem. Sonic Celluloid is envisioned as “sound as cinema.” While the description cinematic quickly comes to mind, this is not a richly orchestral album. Instead, Djam Karet treats the listener to 10 tracks where mellotron, real drums and sequencers are mixed with progressive rock and spacey guitars.
The band reveals that Sonic Celluloid has more minimoogs and mellotrons than any of the previous releases. And it’s pretty evident. Fans of mellotron will really enjoy this album.

Innovative electronic music artist Steve Roach has explored many sound realms, from deep ambient to tribal and Berlin-style electronics. On Soul Tones he generates mesmerizing ambient music atmospheres that evolve bit by bit, creating a calm timeless sense of floating in space.

I’ve seen Fang labeled as new age, but his music leans much more towards the progressive side than the usual easy listening new age.
Throughout Animism, Fang produces mesmerizing layers of electronics that revolve around the acoustic sounds of gamelans, various string instruments and flutes.
