Electronic music artist Dan Pound takes the listener into the subconscious mind. Dreams That Take You is a sonic voyage that features hypnotic floating synths, mysterious ambient soundscapes, trance-like beats, and shamanic vocals.
The primary musical instrument in this recording is a synthesizer called Evolver, designed by Dave Smith. Dan Pound found this synth especially effective as he developed his dream atmospheres.
Dreams That Take You is a deeply satisfying ambient electronic music album.
Mario Schönwälder, Detlef Keller and Bas Broekhuis, the current masters of the Berlin School of electronic music, delight the listener with another gem, Yellow. The album showcases their talent at developing fluctuating, multilayered electronic sequences, enriched by mesmerizing atmospheres and oboe-like synth melodies.
The three musicians use a combination of classic analog synthesizers and digital synths as well. It’s modernized Berlin-style electronic music influenced by early Tangerine Dream and Michael Hoenig.
The lineup on the album includes Bas Broekhuis on analog and digital synthesizers, sequencer, drums and percussion; Detlef Keller on analog and virtual analog synthesizer and sequencer; and Mario Schönwälder on analog and virtual analog synthesizer, computer and sequencer.
Yellow is a spellbinding recording of modern progressive electronic music by one of the most formidable acts in the genre.
Norwegian electronic music sound-crafter Erik Wøllo has released his 23rd album, titled Threshold Point.
Wøllo says about the recording, “For me, Threshold Point is a musical idea of an actual transformation: to cross a threshold, going from one form to another… into a change. Unfolding over time, gradually bridging and leading into new states or places. In my music, patterns and evolution are basic elements, always retaining an emotional connection with the melodies and the textures.”
American electronic music trailblazer Steve Roach will be honored with a Receive Lifetime Achievement Award on May 12, 2018 at the 14th Annual Zone Music Reporter (ZMR) Awards and Concert at Loyola University’s Roussel Hall in New Orleans. Steve Roach’s album Spiral Revelation is also nominated in the ZMR Awards’ “Best Electronic Album” category.
Steve Roach is a forerunner in the evolution of ambient and tribal world music-rooted electronic music. He’s an exceptionally productive synthesist with a discography of over 170 albums. Following his 1982 debut, essential recordings include Structures from Silence, Dreamtime Return and 2017’s Grammy-nominated Spiral Revelation.
Composer, producer, synthesist and multi-instrumentalist, Steve Roach was born February 16, 1955 in La Mesa, near San Diego, in California. He is fascinated by the desert landscapes and wide open spaces in the Southwest of the United States, as well as the outback deserts of Australia. Steve’s style has evolved from purely electronic sounds to the combination of synthetic sounds with some of the most primitive musical instruments.
Steve bought his first synthesizer in 1978. Although his first influences were German electronic acts like Tangerine Dream, Can and Klaus Schulze, Steve soon went beyond and developed his own style.
Los Angeles’ hectic way of life led him to isolate himself in a musical sanctuary. Initially, Steve composed intense sequencer-based music. Later, he started to compose more tranquil and atmospheric music as a response to the rhythmic and sequenced world that characterized his earlier music.
After Empetus, Steve’s compositions mirrored his impressions of southwestern landscapes and world music. His trips to Australia had a profound effect on his music. The desert’s attraction led Steve to move to Tucson, Arizona in the southwestern United States.
“I seek musical instruments that allow me to create sounds in an attractive and intuitive way. It’s something intriguing. That’s the difference between a keyboardist and a synthesis,” says Steve.
Steve Roach records and produces his music in his own studio called the Time Room. It’s a room full of marvelous electronic music devices that Roach uses to extract a multitude of spellbinding sounds.
Steve Roach is restless in his search for new sounds that connect with an ancient source of truth in this ever changing world. Roach has earned his position in the international first tier of major progressive music artists over the last decades through his ceaseless productivity, constant innovation, open minded collaborations with numerous artists and the psychological depth of his music.
Recognized worldwide as one of the leading innovators of contemporary electronic music, he is a very prolific musicians, who has released dozens of albums since 1981, including the ground-breaking double CD Dreamtime Return; the critically acclaimed tribal-trance extravaganza Artifacts; the award winning Earth Island, the second collaboration with Mexican multi-instrumentalist Jorge Reyes and Spanish guitarist and producer Suso Sáiz; the independently produced The Dream Circle; his collaboration with Belgian musician Vidna Obmana, Well of Souls; and Kiva, a mind-bending masterpiece featuring hallucinogenic shamanic rites, synthesizer landscapes and primeval instruments, combining the talents of Roach, Michael Stearns and Ron Sunsinger.
“At the melting point in the ocean of desert, this awesome expanse of a 180-degree horizon slowly works on the perception, revealing yet again the Other desert of inner regions that I crave to be in,” says Steve Roach.

London-based composer and keyboardist Daniel Biro has a superb new album titled 120 Onetwenty, scheduled for release in early 2018.
Daniel Biro brings together three of the greatest progressive music traditions: Berlin-style electronics, prog rock synths and jazz fusion keyboards.
Throughout 120 Onetwenty, Biro develops transfixing electronic sequences inspired by early Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze and other iconic German artists. Additionally, Biro creates awe-inspiring atmospheres and tops it off with memorable synth solos and his signature Rhodes electric piano jazz-rock work.
