Goblin Co-Founder Massimo Morante Dies at 69

Guitarist and composer Massimo Morante, the co-founder of Italian progressive rock group Goblin passed away on June 23, 2022.

Goblin distributed a release on its Facebook page: “Goblin announce with a heavy heart and in total disbelief the passing of founder and guitar master Massimo Morante.”

Although Morante’s band was originally called Oliver, the group changed its name to Goblin in 1975. Since that year, Goblin has been closely associated with movie soundtracks for thrillers and horror movies. The first score was Profondo Rosso, in 1975. Goblin made additional soundtracks in the following years, including the Dario Dargento movies Zombi, Deep Red and Suspiria, as well as George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead.
