The inaugural Cruise to the Edge will take place March 25-30, 2013. This floating progressive rock fest is nearly sold out and featured band Yes has announced it will perform three classic albums in their entirety on the first cruise and preceding spring U.S. tour.
Yes will perform “The Yes Album,” “Close to the Edge” and “Going for the One” three essential albums of the band’s prolific first decade. The albums will be played live during two extended showcase performances aboard Cruise to the Edge.
In addition to the showcase performances, Yes will treat Cruise to the Edge guests to a special storytellers concert combining music, personal stories and fan interaction.
Considered the band’s breakthrough release, The Yes Album” (1971) set the stage for future prog classics while charting No. 4 in the U.K. and No. 40 in the U.S. (platinum certified).
In addition to providing inspiration for the cruise’s name, “Close to the Edge” (1972) is regarded by fans and critics alike as a Yes masterpiece and progressive rock essential album. It was a creative and commercial success for the band.
Watch Yes in 1975:
A reunited Yes released “Going for the One” in 1977, a successful return that saw the band reach the top of the U.K. charts and No. 8 in the United States with a stellar set of shorter songs that spawned two Top 40 singles.
Internationally renowned graphic artist Roger Dean, whose striking paintings have provided visual context for progressive rock albums from Yes, Greeenslade, Glass Hammer, and more recently for Focus and Ben Craven, will join the band on the cruise for an uncommon public appearance.
Roger Dean will give a presentation on his work covering the past 40 years. Cruise to the Edge guests will have the opportunity to view and purchase limited-edition fine prints, original sketches and watercolors. Many of these colorful and highly collectible pieces, seen for the first time outside the U.K., were preparatory work for some of the most iconic album covers of their time.
The five-night cruise also will feature musical friends from all eras of the Yes journey while traveling to the tropical rain forests of Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and the pristine waters of Georgetown, Grand Cayman. Guests on this floating progressive rock festival will experience non-stop music performed by 12 different artists on multiple stages, plus an array of interactive events — Q&A panels, meet-and-greets, historical presentations and much more.
Progressive rock bands scheduled to perform on Cruise to the Edge are:

Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy
