Lost World
Solar Power (Samum Publishing, 2013)
Russian progressive rock band is one of those essential acts that demonstrates that real progressive rock is still alive and well. This impressive trio of skilled musicians plays state of the art symphonic rock with avant-garde elements. This places them at the forefront of the current progressive rock scene.
The musicians who participated in the Solar Power recording are all formidable instrumentalists: Konstantin Shtirlitz on drums, Andy Didorenko on violins, guitars, bass, vocals; and Vassili Soloviev on flute; with Aleksandr Akimov as producer.
Classically-trained multi-instrumentalist and virtuoso Andy Didorenko composed the music and the lyrics on Solar Power. He creates a brilliant mix of classical, rock and fusion jazz, with echoes of King Crimson, PFM and the great Russian classical music tradition. He designs a marvelous landscape that includes beautiful orchestrations and melodies, dreamy atmospheres, delicate passages, masterfully crafted overdubs and dazzling virtuosity, especially on the violins. Practically the entire album is a masterpiece. I say practically because on track 9 he ventures too much into hard rock for my taste.
The video below is The Grin, an outtake track from the Solar Power CD. It contains unused art-work and is only available on the web, not included on the album. The artists in this piece are Veniamin Rozov on drums and Andy Didorenko on violins, guitars, bass.
Lost World’s Solar Power is an example of progressive rock of the highest order showcasing the spellbinding work of maestro Andy Didorenko.
