Fatal Fusion – The Ancient Tale (Karisma Records, 2013)
Norwegian progressive rock band Fatal Fusion returns with its second album titled The Ancient Tale. Fatal Fusion plays original compositions inspired by the great rock bands of the 1970s. You will find captivating keyboard work loaded with fabulous mellotron, synthesizers and Hammond organ interacting with fine guitar solos and riffs.
The group’s vocalist, Knut Erik Grøntvedt has a great epic voice that easily morphs from folk rock to progressive rock and even blues. Even though The Ancient Tale contains state of the art progressive rock, Fatal Fusion explores many other directions, including blues, folk, and hard rock. I don’t mind the hard rock, but I could have done without the occasional unwarranted metal riffing.
The lineup on The Ancient Tale includes Knut Erik Grøntvedt on vocals, Erlend Engebretsen on keyboards, Stig Selnes on guitars, Lasse Lie on bass, and Audun Engebetsen on drums and percussion.
The Ancient Tale contains tremendous progressive symphonic rock of an epic nature.
