Djam Karet, one of the most veteran American progressive rock bands is celebrating its 30th anniversary with another fine collection of new material. Djam Karet is known for its eclectic approach to progressive rock drawing from some of the best sources, such as mesmeric symphonic rock, space rock jamming with soaring guitars, and ambient electronic exploration.
Regenerator 3017 is the band’s 17th album and brings together all of the original band members who use a broad range of vintage musical instruments: Gayle Ellett on electric guitar, Rhodes, Moog, Mellotron, Solina, Greek bouzouki, field recordings; Mike Henderson on electric guitar, percussion; Mike Murray on electric guitar; Chuck Oken, Jr. on drums, percussion, keyboards & effects; Henry J. Osborne on bass, piano, keyboards. Mark Cook (Warr guitar) makes a guest appearance on Living In The Future Past.
The pieces on Regenerator 3017 have a focus on the melodic side with a mix of exquisite mellotron layers and melodies along with riveting guitar, synth and bass solos. The band has up to three guitarists with Ellett appearing on the left speaker, Murray in the center, and Henderson on the right speaker. Djam Karet also mentiones in the liner notes: “in order to capture a more lively and dynamic sound, no compression was used in the making of this CD.”
