French distributor Musea has picked up One for Sorrow, Two For Joy, the latest release by progressive rock band Thieves’ Kitchen. The group features Amy Darby on vocals, Phil Mercy on guitars, and former Anglagard keyboardist Thomas Johnson. The group combines the best of progressive rock with Canterbury, folk, fusion and symphonic influences.
One for Sorrow, Two for Joy features three guest musicians: Paul Mallyon on drums, Sanguine Hum; Brad Waissman on bass, Sanguine Hum; and Anglagard’s Anna Holmgren on flute.
Thieves’ Kitchen was formed in Berkshire (UK) in 1998 by guitarist Phil Mercy and bassist Paul Beecham, who recruited vocalist Simon Boys, drummer Mark Robotham and keyboardist Wolfgang Kindl. Their first album titled Head came out in 2000.
The second album, Argot was released in 2001, featuring Andy Bonham on bass. Lead singer Simon Boys left the band and was replaced by vocalist and woodwind player Amy Darby to join on lead vocals and woodwind.
Shibboleth, Thieves’ Kitchen third album, came out in 2003.It was followed by The Water Road (2008). The band evolved in the meantime, recruiting Swedish keyboard maestro Thomas Johson, who had performed in legendary Swedish progressive rock band Anglagard.
