Steve Hillage – Live At The Rainbow 1977 (Gonzo MultiMedia UK, 2014)
There is been a small wave of Steve Hillage live recordings in the last couple of years. This one presents what Hillage was doing in 1977. At that time his material was more rock and even funk oriented. The highlights in the album are the cuts where Hillage and his processed electric guitar go on exploratory excursions and progressive rock terrain, including ‘Octave Doctors’, ‘Radio’, ‘Electric Gypsies’, the Canterbury-infused ‘The Salmon Song’, the spacey ‘Solar Musick Suite Suite Part 2,’ and the lengthy trippy space-rock piece ‘Saucer surfing’.
Steve Hillage – Live At The Rainbow 1977 is a notable snapshot of what one of the great innovators of the electric guitar was doing in the mid-1970s.
