The Montreal Progressive Music Festival will present celebrated American progressive rock band Echolyn on Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Gesù (1200 de Bleury).
Eight years after their acclaimed performance at the first edition of the Montreal Progressive Music Festival, the Pennsylvania-based quintet will be back on the stage of the Gesù to perform music from their self-titled 2012 album, Echolyn, and their upcoming September 2014 recording, as well as many classic tracks from their vast discography spanning over 20 years.
The band’s discography includes Echolyn (1991), Suffocating the Bloom (1992), …and every blossom (1993), As the World (1995), When the Sweet Turns Sour (1996), Cowboy Poems Free (2000), A Little Nonsense (Now and Then) (2002), mei (2002), Jersey Tomato, Volume 2 (2004), and The End Is Beautiful (2005).
Renowned for their intricate and elegant arrangements mixing 1970s progressive rock with classic American rock, Echolyn includes Brett Kull on guitars, vocals; Ray Weston on vocals, guitar and bass; Chris Buzby on keyboards and vocals; Tom Hyatt on bass; and Paul Ramsey on drums and percussion. Inspired by groups such as Gentle Giant and Genesis, their unique and innovative music is filled with both vocal and instrumental counterpoint, ranging from moving ballads to highly energetic rock compositions.
Echolyn will be accompanied by Conventum Trio as the opening act, comprising legendary 1970s Quebec guitarist and composer André Duchesne, Bernard Falaise (of Miriodor) and Jean René.
Tickets are $39.14 plus fees and taxes at the Gesù box office (514-861-4036).
