Psycho Praxis
Echoes from the Deep (Black Widow Records, 2012)
Even though Italian band Psycho Praxis is a new group, they have managed to recreate a vintage sound that totally recalls the music of the early 1970s on their first album Echoes from the Deep.
Stylistically, the group plays a form of music that is organ heavy, with spacy psychedelic guitar and jazz and rock jamming. It’s not symphonic rock in the style of many of the classic Italian bands of the 1970s, but rather a sound closer to Uriah Heep and Jethro Tull (flute included) with English-language vocals. Black Widow specializes in the darker side of rock music so the pieces have gloomy themes, although the music itself is pretty lively.
The lineup includes Paolo Vacchelli on electric and 12 strings guitar; Matteo Marini on bass, acoustic guitar; Paolo Tognazzi on organ, piano, glockenspiel; Andrea Calzoni on vocals and flute; and Matteo Tognazzi on drums.
Echoes from the Deep is a nicely crafted album where Psycho Praxis has recreated a 1970s atmosphere.
