Fanger & Schönwälder featuring Lutz Graf-Ulbrich
Analog Overdose 5 (MRCD 7100, 2014)
Thomas Fanger and Mario Schönwälder is one of the most prolific electronic acts. Their albums range from classic Berlin-style sounds to melodic electronic works. Analog Overdose 5 takes the duo into a completely progressive direction by mixing krautrock, psychedelic guitars, ambient drones, trancelike sequences and even funk.
The third guest in this recording is the fabulous guitarist Lutz Graf-Ulbrich who plays a scorching performance on the opening space rock wonder titled ‘Ringbahn.’
The music slows down on ‘Schöneberg’ where the group presents a melodic aspect.
‘Geisterbahnhof’ takes the listener into mysterious ambience that gradually evolves into pure space music beauty featuring hypnotic sequencers, drones and super synth melodies.
On ‘Wannsee’ the guitar is laid back and spacey, surrounded by prodigious atmospheres.
Spellbinding Berlin school sequencers blend with guitars and exquisite synth melodies in ‘West-Tangente.’
‘Zentralflughafen’ features sequencers along with electronic dance beats and space guitar. The synth solos and techno beats take you to Kraftwerk’s Dusseldorf school .
Atmospheric cosmic explorations define ‘Wintergarten.’
‘Funkturm’ is a bouncy sequencer-based piece with funk guitar.
The album ends with the extensive ‘Frankfurter Allee’ where the exploratory space guitar provides delightful interplay with the synths. It was recorded during a live session in a car driving through Berlin. ‘Frankfurter Allee’ features various iPads and Lutz’s famed Gibson SG guitar.
Lutz Graf-Ulbrich is a living legend, well-known from bands like Agitation Free, 17 Hippies and his solo project Lüül.
