Jam It!
Following the Unknown (2015)
Jam It! is a great instrumental progressive rock band from Russia. Their digital album “Following the Unknown” showcases a mix of symphonic rock and jazz-rock fusion featuring superb guitar work, creative drumming and pretty fine bass and keyboard performances.
The album opens with “Following the Unknown”, a piece that has an Andalusian rock flavor that connects with the classic southern Spanish flamenco rock bands of the 1970s.
Track 2, “Sea Breeze”, is a highly technical piece with numerous time signature changes demonstrating the musicians’ skill. Oddly, the keyboards inject a smooth jazz feel.
“Through the Forest” sounds very American, with blues, funk and southern progressive rock influences.
Track 4, “Mountain of Solitude” introduces some of the more melodic moments in the album.
“Avalanche” is a jazz-rock and funk-infused piece with excellent drum, guitar and keyboard interaction.
Track 6, “Into the Mist” is the shortest cut on the album and one the most delightful, with outstanding guitar work.
The album ends in power mode, with “Random Name Hero”, a piece that mixes prog rock, jazz-rock and measured hard rock.
The lineup includes four skilled musicians, including Alexey Vostrikov on drums, Dmitry Medvinsky on bass, Konstantin Ilin on guitar, and Roman Savelyev on keyboards. Szendőfi Balázs makes a guest appearance with a bass solo
