Bach to Moog – A Realization for electronics and Orchestra (Sony Classical, 2015)
The Moog synthesizer company is celebrating the 50th year of synthesizer development with new versions of its groundbreaking modular synthesizers. For this project, Sony Classical honors Moog and the timeless works of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Don’t expect a progressive rock version of Bach. Even though progressive music artists pushed the limits of Moogs and other synthesizers and cfeated some of the most memorable recordings, the focus here is on purely classical music without any other musical influences.
Bach to Moog is not a purely electronic music album. Composer, arranger and record producer Craig Leon combines the synthesized sounds of the Moog with Jennifer Pike’s violin together with the Sinfonietta Cracovia. The idea is to integrate the Moog modular synthesizer into the orchestra as a solo instrument.
Bach to Moog is a beautifully arranged recording of Bach’s enduring music featuring the synthesizer as a member of a modern symphony orchestra.
