Completely (Gallant Music, 2013)
“Completely” is the outstanding first album released by the Michael Gallant Trio, a group led by pianist and composer Michael Gallant. He bridges jazz tradition with modern elements and even tango. The format used consists of acoustic and electric piano, bass and drums.
Michael Gallant is joined by two well-known musicians: bassist Linda Oh on acoustic and electric bass, and drummer Chris Infusino. Gallant gives his colleagues plenty of room throughout the album to showcase their talent.
Highlights include the trio’s cover of Pearl Jam’s “Go” where Gallant combines electric and acoustic piano with Oh’s electric bass and powerful drums; tango jazz piece “Cornelia Street Tango”; “Problem with the Game” where jazz meets rock-style drumming and Pink Floyd-style electric piano; funk jazz track “The Real Maria”; fusion piece “Completely”; and laid back piece “Candelight.”
