I Heard You Listening (Echolyn, 2015)

American progressive rock band Echolyn is known for its consistently good albums. I Heard You Listening took nearly two years to complete. It’s a beautifully-crafted album with an emphasis on vocals and less time dedicated to instrumental sections.

Musically, Echolyn still delivers symphonic progressive rock. By now, the band has developed its own style, with a distinct American flavor, characterized by the unique vocals of Ray Weston and the elaborate choruses of other band members, along with the epic keyboard work of Christopher Buzby.

One of the highlights of the album include “Empyrean Views”, the longest track on the album. It has a laid back timeless feel with many memorable moments that makes this piece a future classic.

Track 4, “Different Days” will please prog rock fans who want a bigger taste of instrumental music. The full band gets to show its talent and the keyboards here are truly good.

Another high point is “Carried Home” where Brett Kull’s guitars play a bigger role.

Lastly, “Sound of Bees” is a captivating piece with impressive vocal work.

I Heard You Listening is the ninth full-length studio album by the Echolyn. The band met every Thursday to work on the material until the songs were compete.

The lineup on I Heard You Listening includes Raymond Francis Weston on lead and backing vocals, bass; Brett Kull on guitars, lead and backing vocals; Christopher Buzby on keyboards, vocals; Paul Ramsey on drums, percussion, backing vocals; and Thomas Hyatt on bass, guitar, backing vocals.
