Laura Meade – The Most Dangerous Woman in America (Doone Records, 2021)
The Most Dangerous Woman in America is the new solo album from Laura Meade, the superb vocalist of New York progressive rock band IZZ.
The album highlights Laura Meade’s talent as singer and songwriter. The songs are co-authored with IZZ bandmate John Galgano. The theme behind The Most Dangerous Woman in America is the life of a woman whose voice was suppressed and whose story was overlooked by her own country.
As you can imagine, the musical arrangements have a deep IZZ flavor. Although the focus is on the wonderful, expressive vocals, its emotions and nuances, you will also find brief finely crafted instrumental moments.
“As we wrote the music and lyrics for this album, John and I realized that the concept and story that inspired us was not just the story of one woman, but also the story of all of those who stay true to themselves regardless of the cost,” says Meade.
“There have been so many people throughout history – many of them women – who stand up for themselves, stand up for what they believe in, and experience great pain and suffering for doing so, their memories and voices lost along the way to gossip and rumor. I hope that this album, in some small way, honors and gives voice to the forgotten.”
“This album was written to honor the forgotten: those whose stories remain untold, whose lives have been neutralized by those with unchecked power,” adds Meade.
The lineup includes Laura Meade on vocals; and fellow IZZ members Tom Galgano on keyboards; Brian Coralian on V-Drums; and John Galgano on bass.
Laura Meade’s solo debut album was Remedium, released in 2018.
