Malady – Ainavihantaa (Svart Records, 2021)
Ainavihantaa is the new album from excellent Finnish progressive rock band Malady. Ainavihantaa (Perennially Verdant) features charming vocals in Finnish and fine instrumental work with a symphonic and mesmerizing psychedelic edge, especially the interaction between guitars, bass and keyboards; and the deeply satisfying epic finale.
The band added a saxophonist that doesn’t add much aside from a jazz edge that lacks interest. Thankfully the Mellotron work is fantastic, including the emulated flute sound; as well as the masterful electric organ and multifaceted guitars.
Malady’s previous recordings include Malady (2015) and Toinen toista (2018).
