Soniq Theater is the solo-project of ex-Rachel’s Birthday keyboard-player Alfred Mueller. Cinemagic was released January 1, 2022, and it is a celebration of all thing’s cinema. It was designed for someone who loves the keyboards and synthesizers. I love the keyboards and this album brings all the wonderful things we love about movies in sound. Every track is a celebration of the art, stories, and yes, magic, that have been brought to the world through films, since Hollywood sprung up in Los Angeles.
Every track is an instrumental, with keyboards, synthesizers, and drum machines creating the soundscape. Absolutely beautiful in every way for someone who just wants to sit back, every now and then, reminisce, and listen to great keyboard sounds. This is the perfect ticket to the sound of the movies, from epics, to blockbusters, science fiction, love stories, and of course thrillers.
Although every track is unique and wonderful,, the standouts for me were: the opener – “Cinemagic Revisited”. “Epic Movie” – an ELP-like masterpiece full of experimental sounds, and like any good epic, it is the longest track on the album. “Blockbuster” is another gigantic hit. “Motion Picture” shows off its regal keys. “Stuntman” has some excellent background grooves and beats that will really satisfy, as well as take you back to some cool 1980s movie soundtracks. “Thriller” has enough dark keyboards and drumming to a heavy dark beat, to satisfy any thrill seeker. “Science Fiction” has a cool dance beat, and plenty of exotic sounds. “Armageddon” is full of so many air raid sirens and sound effects that it is probably my favorite. A “Love Song”, is a beautiful way to end any album.
Alfred Mueller does it again! Another great keyboard instrumental album; this time in appreciation for all the great films that have graced the silver screen. Altogether, this is a wonderful album for a Saturday or Sunday relaxing listen. Nothing to do but just click play, and be taken away. If you like all things keyboards you will love this. Please get this and support a fantastic multi-keyboard instrumentalist.
