Zelbo’s In My Dreams, was released back on December 10th , in 2021. The album is a melodic rock album full of Journey-like pop rock.
The Zelbo project was masterminded by Norwegian keyboard player Dag Selboskar. He is an experienced musician form the band Da Vinci. He released two albums with DaVinci, Da Vinci, (1987) and Back In Business, (1989) for Polygram Records. Dag enlisted the services of his longtime friend Ken Ingwersen, a guitar player who started his career in the mid 80’s working for Evenrude and later on played with Rags and Street Legal. Completing the lineup are Frode Vassel on vocals and Sturla Nostvik on drums.
Zelbo does sound a little like Europe and some of the 80s bands I used to listen to like: Loverboy, REO Speedwagon, Chicago and Journey. Their music is fun music to listen to on the road or out on a date. It is not really supposed to move you, unless it is to dance.
Every track is great as a pop/melodic rock composition. If you liked any of the bands I mentioned above, I think you will be perfectly happy with this debut album. All of the tracks have great keyboard moments, but few match the opening of “Beautiful Flyaway”. The title track is one of the best songs on the album. “Phoenix Rising” is full of fire. “Wild Young and Free”, will take you back to Chicago, if they used more keyboards. “Next Flight to Venus”, is a great Europe/Journey-like song. “Waiting for the End” and “Every Little Thing” are also very good.
They keyboard work throughout this album is exemplary. The pop influence only makes this music more accessible. Hard not to like this music at all. Give Zelbo’s In My Dreams, a chance. Just something easy to get into and enjoy.
