Rare Progressive Rock EP from 1970s Band Apocalypse Available Decades Later

Apocalypse – The Castle (Guerssen/Out-Sider Records, 2022)

Apocalypse, a progressive rock band from the 1970s that was active in Chicago has released an EP titled “The Castle.”  Apocalypse masterfully constructed musical pieces influenced by some of the iconic British progrock pioneers.

Apocalypse featured three members of the Salvatori family with a wonderful mix of male and female vocals, Mellotron, double necked guitars and captivating lyrics. Although this was a demo made in 1976, it was quite good, with influences from Renaissance, Genesis, Gentle Giant, King Crimson and other great progressive rock bands.

In 1976, when he was in high school, bassist and guitarist Tom Salvatori formed a band with older brother Michael Salvatori, Michael’s wife Gail Salvatori, and Tom’s classmate Scott Magnesen. They named the band Apocalypse and recorded an excellent 5-track album titled The Castle with epic moments.

The lineup included Michael Salvatori on guitars, vocals and recorder; Tom Salvatori on bass, guitars and classical guitar; Gail Salvatori on keyboards, violin, backing vocals; and Scott Magnesen on drums and percussion.

  1. Hi Angel, Thanks for your coverage of our 1976 prog-rock album, finally seeing the light of day 46 years later! Just a quick correction on your post for your readership – the March 25, 2022 album release on Guerssen’s Out-Sider Record Label is actually a full-length LP, not an EP. The 5 songs featured clock in at 38 minutes (a full length LP) and as such are long, cool songs 🙂

    Thanks again!

    Tom Salvatori
