Robert Berry’s 3.2 – Alive at ProgStock (2nd Street Records, 2022)
This triple disc contains two audio CDs of Robert Berry’s 3.2 performances recorded live, plus a DVD of the same concert. Robert Berry is a bassist, guitarist and vocalist that Worked with Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP) in the late 1980s.
Although this is an album recorded at Progstock, you won’t find much progressive rock. Instead, the majority of the pieces have a 1980s AOR, toe tapping power pop feel, with pounding drums, 1980s Emersonian keyboard flourishes (the best part of the album, by the way) and vocal hooks. The only notable progressive rock material consists of versions of two cherished progressive rock classics, Genesis‘ “Watcher of the Skies” and ELP‘s “Karn Evil 9.”
The lineup includes Robert Berry on bass, acoustic guitar and lead vocals; Paul Keller on lead guitar and vocals; Jimmy Keegan (Spock’s Beard) on drums and vocals; and Andrew Colyer (Circuline) on keyboards and vocals.
