The legendary Paul Winter Consort has released a music video of “Lendas Brasileiras”, a composition by Guinga. The piece appears in “Concert in the Barn“, the Consort’s new album, recorded during last year’s Summer Solstice Celebration Livestream.
“Lendas Brasileiras” features Brazilian musician Henrique Eisenmann and Paul Winter. Keyboardist Henrique Eisenmann says about Guinga: “Guinga is one of the most brilliant active composers in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, drawing inspiration from Bossa Nova, Samba, and classical music. Once, he revealed that his favorite melodist ever was Tchaikovsky.
“Imagine the lyricism of Tchai’s music meeting Jobim‘s intricate harmonies… that’s Guinga in essence. “Lendas Brasileiras” is a song filled with made-up words and expressions that don’t necessarily make sense, but give the impression of mythological figures, folk tales and popular culture. It’s a delicious and imagetic dream that feels yet so real and close. Maybe this is the power of music, to bring the impossible to reality.
“The original lyrics were written by genius poet Aldir Blanc, who unfortunately was one of the first victims of COVID-19 in 2020.”
