Progrock Artist Profiles: Latte e Miele

Progressive rock band Latte e Miele (milk and honey) was founded in 1971 in Genoa, Italy. In 1972, they released their most famous recording, the concept album “Passio secundum Mattheum” (Passion according to Matthew), with music partially inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach and readings from the Gospel of Matthew. In 1973, Latte e Miele released another masterful concept album, “Papillon.”

The original lineup included Oliviero Lacagnina on keyboards, piano, vocals; Giancarlo Marcello Dellacasa on guitar, bass, vocals; and Alfio Vitanza on drums, flute, vocals.

In 1974, the group disbanded. It reappeared in 1976, with only Alfio Vitanza as the remaining original member. This new incarnation of the band released a final progressive rock album titled “Aquile e scoiattoli.” After that, the group drifted towards pop.

An English language version of Papillon, recorded in 1973, was released in 1992. That same year, the band released “Latte e Miele Live,” recorded in 1974.

The original lineup reformed in 2008 and released “Live Tasting.” ‘Next came “Marco Polo – Sogni e viaggi” (2009) and “‘Passio Secundum Mattheum – The Complete Work” (2014).
