Tavat is the new project developed by progressive rock keyboardist Juhani Laine, former Sammal memebr. The self-titled album, “Tavat”, is scheduled for release November 18, 2022, on Svart Records.
Along the process that started before the pandemic, there were times when Juhani had to ask for the help of his bandmates from several past projects. Taneli Manninen (Severi Peura & Selvänäkijät, Waltari on-demand) stepped in as the drummer for the whole album and Jan-Erik Kiviniemi (Sammal) took over the lead vocals on most of the tracks.
The debut album’s musicians also include Severi Pyysalo on vibraphone; Matias Ryki-Kilpiö on trombone; with Hannu Vainionpää (The Grammers, Hannu & Harharetkue), Emilia Roos and Maiju Oikarinen on vocals. The members of Sammal also took part with their instruments to complete the album.
Juhani’s elderly father who’s struggling with memory disorder made the original artwork for the album cover.
