Czech guitar master Alexandra Zerner has announced the release of a new album titled Don’t Give Up, which is dedicated to her late mother. The lineup includes Alexandra Zerner on guitars, keyboards, flute, bass, orchestration; and Victor Alexandrov on drums. Guest musicians: Angel Wolf-Black on vocals on “Don’t Give Up”; Ivan Ivanov (Velian) on vocals on “Don’t Give Up”; and Franck Hermanny on “Don’t Give Up.
Alexandra Zerner says; “This is a requiem album for my beloved and much-lamented mother, who passed away earlier this year. Making this album was the only way to cope with the excruciating pain and channel it into what I do best – writing music.
The first half of the album is a suite of three compositions that describe three major events of my mother’s demise – the unbearable pain and gut-wrenching weeping, burying her ashes and visiting her empty house.
The second part consists of a song I wrote for her two years ago, and also a cover of her favorite song “Don’t Give Up” by Peter Gabriel feat. Kate Bush.
The artwork is based on a drawing she made for me for one of my birthdays. She wrote there her favorite motto “Don’t Give Up” which comes from the aforementioned song, and she accidentally put the apostrophe on the wrong spot – “Don’t Give Up!”. She wanted to redo the entire drawing, but I asked her to leave it as it is because I didn’t want it to be a chase for perfection and lose the soul and the gist of it in the process. That’s an important principle I follow in my music, so I wanted to keep this as a symbol of it.”
