Reale Accademia di Musica – Lame di Luce (Sony Music, 2022)
“Lame di Luce” is the latest album by Reale Accademia di Musica, one of the classic Italian progressive rock bands of the 1970s. This new version of Reale Accademia di Musica is led by guitarist and founding member Pericle Sponzilli, who re-formed the band in 2018 and released the album “Angeli Mutanti.”
Despite the band’s pedigree, the current style is closer to radio friendly classic rock and pop, with short songs with hooks and little space for instrumental passages and virtuosity. Sponzilli’s band includes Fabio Liberatori, former keyboardist of Stadio and collaborator of Lucio Dalla; vocalist Erika Savastani, of Deserto Rosso; and bassist.
Reale Accademia di Musica’s self-titled debut album released in 1972 has become a classic over the years.
Lineup: Pericle Sponzilli on vocals and guitars; Fabio Liberatori on piano, Hammond organ and synthesizers; Erika Savastani on vocals; and Fabio Fraschini on bass. Guest musicians: Francesco Isola on drums; and Danilo Pao on Fender VI.
