Single Helix – Prog Gnosis (2023)
Single Helix is the project of British musician Rik Loveridge. Rik was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2021. He responded with a new album titled ‘Prog Gnosis’ and left his progressive rock band The Kentish Spires to focus on his own music.
The album blends masterfully crafted progressive rock with other genres and features guitar and smooth saxophone elements with help from musicians Nick Fletcher and Chris Egan. Rik worked with audio engineers Paul Cobbold and David Pickering for mixing and mastering.
The progressive rock side of the album, with captivating vocals as well as notable keyboard work by Rik and dazzling guitar lines by Nick Fletcher, is quite good, unlike the smooth jazz saxophone parts that are less appealing. I hear fascinating and alluring echoes of the Canterbury sound and The Tangent, although with better vocals.
