Fraudprophets – Poptosis (Fraudprophets , 2019)
Fraudprophets is a musical partnership consisting of multi-instrumentalist/composer Sean Halley and percussionist Nate Morton, who is prominently featured on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ and is one of the most sought-after drummers in Los Angeles.
The music on “Poptosis” effortlessly transitions between jazz, funk, rock, seventies-style fusion, and country rock, all delivered with technical prowess and a playful sense of humor acquired from decades of experience in the studio and on stage.
Sean Halley is a rare audio chameleon, having recorded with notable artists such as Vinnie Colaitua, Tony Levin, Jerry Marotta, Michael Thompson, Richard Marx, and Michael Manring, among many others. He has written orchestral scores for film and TV, worked as a busy session musician, produced and engineered successful independent records, built recording facilities and gear. He also founded the popular Production and Recording department at LA College of Music.
“This band has been a long time coming for Nate and me. By not restricting ourselves to narrow musical genres, we’re free to play whatever we feel like. There was a palpable sense of joy and playfulness when we put these songs together (we even began with drinking to a metronome!), and I hope that it translates to the listening experience of ‘poptosis.’ We had a great time making it, and we’re excited to perform it live!“
Nate Morton is a talented drummer who provides the backbone for records from a diverse range of artists such as Michael Bolton, Kelis, and Damian Marley. He has toured worldwide as the drummer for Natalie Cole, Chaka Khan, Miley Cyrus, Poe, Vanessa Carlton, and Paul Stanley, and has performed at high-profile award shows.
Morton is most recognizable for his role as the drummer for various musical shows of the last two decades, starting with Rockstar: INXS, Rockstar: Supernova, and Rock the Cradle, and continuing on to all 400 episodes of the popular NBC show ‘The Voice,’ which continues to draw millions of fans each week.
“This band came to be because I was tired of not having a satisfactory answer when interviewers asked me ‘hey Nate, what kind of music do you play in your free time?’ Sean and I share a deep musical connection that stems from our shared love of a vast array of recorded music from our formative years, and from our fifteen years of friendship. It really shows on the new record – even when we jump from a saxophone tune with brushwork to a country barn-burner, it still sounds like us. After spending years in the studio, ‘poptosis’ is my favorite collection of my own playing – and that’s a gratifying feeling!”
