Lorenzo Cellupica – In a Haunted House (Ma.Ra.Cash Records, 2023)
In January 2023, Ma.Ra.Cash Records released Lorenzo Cellupica’s first solo piano album, “In a Haunted House.” The album features a collection of finely-crafted melodic pieces rooted in neoclassical and jazz music.
Cellupica currently plays an active role as a pianist in numerous musical projects, spanning across jazz, fusion, progressive rock, swing, Latin, pop, blues, and serves as a music instructor at Accademia Musicale Isolana (Musical Academy of Isola del Liri).
The Italian artist hails from Isola del Liri (Frosinone). He is a musician of many talents, encompassing the roles of a pianist, keyboardist, composer, and music instructor. Born in 1992, he initiated his musical journey at a local school and progressed solo from ages 13 to 25, acquiring an extensive education in diverse genres like classical, jazz, rock, and pop.
In 2011, Cellupica won the Non solo Jazz contest for emerging artists in Alvito (FR) with his band Yellowcake. In 2015, the newspaper TG24 regarded him as the finest musician in a competition organized by the Industrie Sonore music school in Isola del Liri, where he showcased his original compositions for solo piano.
Möbius Strip, an instrumental jazz and progressive quartet led by Cellupica, released their eponymous debut album in 2017, which earned critical acclaim from several Italian and international publications. The album, featuring Cellupica’s compositions and arrangements, was published by the French label Musea Records and broadcasted worldwide by various radio stations.
From 2017 to 2019, Möbius Strip performed in various festivals and clubs, including the Pozzuoli Jazz Festival, Jazzit Festival (Pompei), Stazione Birra (Roma), Defrag (Roma), Lo Sciamano (Roma), La Casa di Alex (Milano), and many others. They also played at Reggies in Chicago for the Progtoberfest Festival, opening for Soft Machine, followed by gigs in Illinois and Wisconsin.
In 2017, Cellupica completed his degree in Energy Engineering at the University of Tor Vergata in Rome and enrolled at the Music Conservatory L. Refice in Frosinone, where he earned an honor degree in 2020 with a thesis on Thelonious Monk.
In 2021, AltRock Records published Möbius Strip’s second album, Time Lag, distributed by Ma.Ra.Cash Records, which received critical acclaim. That year, Cellupica also participated in Siena Jazz’s summer seminars.
In 2022, Cellupica was awarded Rotary Club Frosinone L’eccellenza della musica italiana (“the excellence of Italian Music”) for the jazz area, jointly with Francesco Curcio, A.A. 2021/2022 – XXI Edition. In July, he played with the Refice Jazz Ensemble, led by Filiberto Palermini, at the Anagni Jazz Fest. Furthermore, in August, he performed a solo piano set at the In Progress…One festival in Sestu (CA). In October, at the second Refice Jazz Fest, he directed the Refice Jazz Big Band and conducted his original composition called It’s in a Mint Condition.
