Art Griffin’s Sound Chaser’s instrumental album, “The Seven Ages of Starlight,” released in 2022, showcases the remarkable skills of its composer and multi-instrumentalist, Art Griffin, alongside his talented colleagues, Steve Negus, Kelly Kereliuk, and Victoria Yeh. Their collaboration resulted in an innovative and accessible mix of progressive rock and jazz fusion, influenced by the works of Allan Holdsworth, Bill Bruford, and Jean-Luc Ponty.
Griffin’s primary role as a musician on this album includes keyboards, synthesizers, bass, and some guitar. His exceptional skills in musicianship allowed him to recruit some of Canada’s finest musicians, including the renowned drummer from Saga, Steve Negus, who anchored and mixed the album. Moreover, electric violinist Victoria Yeh added a unique dimension to the album, showcasing her impressive soloing skills and outstanding interplay with Griffin and Kereliuk.
“The Seven Ages of Starlight” is an excellent work that features exceptional solo performances and creative interactions between the musicians. It also boasts several guest appearances from celebrated musicians such as Jamie Glaser of the Jean-Luc Ponty Band, who contributed to tracks two and five; Todd Sucherman, who played drums on tracks eleven and twelve; and Michael Sadler, who provided harmony vocals on track seven. Frank Wyatt also joined the group for track seven, adding his expertise in Moog synthesizer, while Sarah Westbrook showcased her keyboarding skills on track five.
