Aline’s Étoile Magique – Éclipse (Elastic Recordings, 2023)
Aline’s Étoile Magique’s “Éclipse” is an album that defies traditional jazz structures and takes listeners on an adventurous musical journey, incorporating improvised music, chamber music, lovely contemporary jazz and some experimentation as well. Aline Homzy, the award-winning violinist and composer, leads the band, which includes exquisite vibraphone, violin, guitar, bass, and drums, creating a rich palette of colors and textures.
The album combines both rigidly written parts and improvised solos, resulting in a fusion of structure and fluidity. Aline’s wide-ranging background influences her original music, reflecting her culturally diverse roots. In addition to her own compositions, Aline is a sought-after studio violinist in Toronto, recording for various artists. She has also performed and recorded with renowned international musicians. Aline’s commitment to community is evident in her initiatives to provide fair pay opportunities for underrepresented musicians and make the arts accessible to low-income individuals.
Musicians: Aline Homzy on violin, voice, theremin; Michael Davidson on vibraphone, marimba, piano, synthesizer; Marito Marques on percussion and drums; Dan Fortin on bass; Thom Gill on guitars; João Frade on accordion; and Felicity Williams on vocals.
Buy Éclipse.
Very impressive recording. Eager to hear more recordings by Aline Homzy. Eclipse has been warmly received by listeners to JazzFlight, my jazz program on WQLN NPR. http://www.wqln.org
