The Aristocrats – Duck (Boing Music, 2024)
The rock-fusion virtuosos, The Aristocrats, have released their long-awaited offering, an extraordinary concept album titled Duck. This marks their triumphant return to the scene after a five-year interlude.
The trio features guitar virtuoso Guthrie Govan, one of the finest electric guitar players in North America; bass maestro Bryan Beller; and drumming prodigy Marco Minnemann. Throughout the album, they demonstrate their dazzling music talent, formulating their trademark mix of high energy instrumental progressive rock, jazz fusion and other elements. With over a decade of genre-defying performances under their belt, The Aristocrats have cemented their status as trailblazers in the current progressive music scene.
Of the inspiration for Duck, The Aristocrats explained, “It is the story of a web-footed Antarctic Island native fleeing a penguin policeman all the way to New York City…where considerable misadventure and danger await.”
The band provides more details about why they made a concept album, “We’ve always been writing with a storytelling aspect in mind, and our live shows always include our stories behind the songs…But the stories had mainly been about us. Then Marco came into the studio with a song about a duck, and we all looked at each other and said, ‘What if all of stories for the songs on this album…happened to a duck? What’s that story about?’ And suddenly we had a concept album on our hands.”
Since their electrifying debut at the Anaheim NAMM show in 2011, The Aristocrats have captivated audiences worldwide with their unbridled energy and infectious enthusiasm.
Duck is available in standard and deluxe editions, each offering a unique glimpse behind the curtain. The deluxe edition features exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and demos housed in a sleek USB “Duck” drive.
The captivating, underground comic-style character artwork is by renowned animator Lance Myers.
