Lucifer Was – Ein Fix Ferdig Mann (Apollon Records Prog, 2024)
Norwegian band Lucifer Was has made some changes noticeable on their eight album, En Fix Ferdig Mann. On this occasion, the band has chosen to sing in their native Norwegian tongue.
Imbued with impassioned male vocals, foreboding choruses, and a coating of classic progressive rock elements, En Fix Ferdig Mann draws from a diverse palette that includes hard rock; psychedelia; Queen-style theatrics; bluesy rock influences; cathedral organ; and more, transcending musical boundaries.
The ethereal and masterfully crafted standout track, “Når Natta Kjem Og Tek Meg” (When the Night Comes and Takes Me), is one of the high points of the album. You are treated to sublime Mellotron harmonies and enchanting female vocals.
Founded in Oslo in 1970, Lucifer Was emerged as a formidable force in psychedelic hard-rock and hard-progressive rock. Despite a brief hiatus in 1975, their legacy endured, fueled by a raw and untamed energy that captivated audiences. It wasn’t until the late 90s that their dormant brilliance was unearthed by Record Heaven, leading to a renaissance of their sound.
Revisiting songs from their live performances of the early 70s, Lucifer Was embarked on a journey of rediscovery. The result is a collection of electrifying modern tracks that pulsate with the spirit of a bygone era, evoking echoes of legendary acts like Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, early Scorpions, and Jethro Tull.
