Mycelium Days (Apollon Records, 2020)
On Mycelium Days, Yobrepus presents an amalgamation of art-rock infused with progressive and electronic elements. Additionally, their music includes melancholic Nordic music, post-rock and avant-garde aspirations.
The album opens with a 22-minute medley paying homage to iconic progressive rock tracks such as Pink Floyd’s “Echoes” and King Crimson’s “Lark’s Tongues in Aspic,” featuring extended instrumental passages enriched with Mellotron. However, it deviates from a retro vibe, embodying a post-progressive essence that surpasses their previous work in coherence. While elements of indie rock and 90s trip-hop persist, the band’s musical identity on this recording reflects influences from acts like King Crimson, Pink Floyd, and Porcupine Tree.
Musicians: Mats Jørgen Sivertsen, composer, producer, vocals, keyboards, guitars, loops; Vegard Weyergang Vartdal on bass, backing vocals; Paal Urdal on drums; and Leon Muraglia on guitars.
