The Edgar Broughton Band – Gone Blue- The BBC Sessions (Cherry Red Records, 2024)

The Edgar Broughton Band emerged on the UK music scene in 1969, pioneering the underground counterculture with their blues rock and psychedelic music infused with social commentary. The rebellious band was formed in Warwick, UK. The lineup included Edgar Broughton (guitars, vocals), Steve Broughton (drums, vocals), and Arthur Grant (bass, vocals).

Their effective, hard-hitting style, presented across several successful albums for EMI’s Harvest label and performances at the iconic Hyde Park Free Concerts, earned them a dedicated fan base and a series of hit singles, including their anthem “Out Demons Out!” In 1970, guitarist Victor Unitt joined the band, further expanding their sound.

Their association with the BBC began in January 1969 with their first session for John Peel’s Top Gear show, recorded months before their debut album, Wasa Wasa! Over the next four years, The Edgar Broughton Band recorded multiple sessions for various BBC shows such as Top Gear and Sounds of the 70s, along with two notable In Concert appearances.

This new official 4CD clamshell boxed set compiles these sessions, all newly remastered from the BBC masters, featuring 32 previously unreleased tracks. The set also includes an illustrated booklet with an essay.
