deepspace – Vertical Landscapes — Retrospective (Projekt, 2024)
Vertical Landscapes — Retrospective is a 91-minute anthology of transfixing ambient electronic music by Australian artist deepspace, covering selections from his 15 albums, both independent and released by Projekt Records. The collection includes tracks from his debut album, The Barometric Sea (2007), to his latest release, The Black Orchid Galaxies (2024).
This anthology highlights deepspace’s distinct harmonic language and unique sound explorations, encompassing themes from quantum atomic levels and microscopic botany to surreal landscapes and vast interstellar structures. It features the artist’s signature elements: breath-like washes of sound, impressionistic melodies, and layered details that encourage further exploration. In essence, it is spellbinding ambient electronic music that takes the listeners to beautiful, unexplored realms.
deepspace is the moniker of Brisbane-based ambient artist Mirko Ruckels, who uses synthesizers, software, and acoustic instruments to create hypnotic, atmospheric music. Since 2006, Ruckels has been crafting ambient soundscapes that evoke diverse moods and spaces.
