German electronic music artist Volker Lankow has just released a new ambient album titled Unsafe Territories.
Lankow shared: “While I was recording this album, I was looking for a connection between unsafe environments and abstract ambient music. This can be profound as both can evoke feelings of unease, dislocation, and introspection. I myself have experienced these feelings repeatedly over several years while working in highly insecure areas, and where I was sometimes listening to ambient music for relaxation.
Abstract ambient music often creates a soundscape that reflects the unpredictability and tension of an uncertain environment. The use of dissonant tones, abrupt changes and multi-layered textures can evoke feelings of anxiety and uncertainty.”
