Randy Hoexter’s “Tomorrowsville”: A Fusion of Jazz Mastery and Innovation

Randy Hoexter – Tomorrowsville (Blue Canoe Records, 2024)

Atlanta-based jazz pianist and composer Randy Hoexter showcases his multifaceted talent in Tomorrowsville, his latest album on Blue Canoe Records. The elegant and scintillating album features a distinguished lineup, including jazz luminaries such as bassist Jimmy Haslip, woodwind artist Sam Skelton, drummer John David, and Grammy-winning guitarist Mike Stern. Stellar contributions also come from trumpeters Gordon Vernick and Justin Powell, trombonist Eric Alexander, and vocalist Roberta Setzu. Notably, Hoexter and his colleagues deliver a mix of masterfully executed contemporary jazz and savory Latin jazz.

Beyond his work as a performer, Hoexter’s expertise spans various media, having crafted arrangements for artists like Jimmy Herring, Bill Hart, and Shane Theriot, and collaborated with drummers Rod Morgenstein, Sonny Emory, and Jeff Sipe. His commercial compositions have resonated with major clients like Bank of America, Yamaha, Univision, and Timberland, with music featured in campaigns for Arby’s, Kohler, and Fox Sports Florida.

Hoexter’s influence extends into education as well; from 1988 to 2016, he taught at the Atlanta Institute of Music, where he collaborated with jazz icons like Peter Erskine and John Scofield. Currently, he is a jazz piano and theory instructor at LaGrange College, where he continues to mentor emerging talents.
