Matias Bacoñsky – “New World”

Matias Bacoñsky, surprised us all, with a new release that includes some of the best female metal voices of the last 40 years. That new album, New World, will be released on January 17,2025!

Born in Argentina, on September 10th 1994, Matias Bacoñsky has emerged as a dynamic pianist and composer, blending evocative piano melodies with grandiose orchestral arrangements. His distinctive sound is shaped by the hauntingly beautiful piano work of Amy Lee from Evanescence and powerful orchestrations of Epica. This fusion has become the hallmark of Bacoñsky’s unique musical style.

The album, New World, describes a story, “In a post-apocalyptic world, a man reunites with his wife after weeks of survival, and together they find hope in rebuilding their lives. As they search for their missing son, the wife confesses she made a painful sacrifice, saving her family by using the only life-saving vaccine doses on them, condemning others. When the community turns against her, she reveals the full extent of her sacrifice. As her health deteriorates, the man vows to honor her memory and continue the fight for a better future for their son, despite the uncertain road ahead”.

All of the music was composed by Matias Bacoñsky. The mix and orchestral arrangement was created by Diqurox. Graphic design was created by John Tierradentro and Matias Bacoñsky. New World was mastered by Carlos Altolaguirre.

What makes New World, unique and wonderful is the vocal performances of the A-List female vocalists which perform on the songs that fill this album. They include: Munay Anaya, (Manuella Kraller), who performs vocalizations on “Retrouvailles”; Marcela Bovio performs vocalizations on “Hope”; Zuberoa Aznarez, performs vocalizations on “Charmolypi”; Ambre Vourvahis, performs vocalizations on “Love Story”; and Ulli Perhonen, performs vocalizations on “Eye of the Storm”.

Thankfully Matias Bacoñsky, opens this wonderful album with Munay Anaya, (Manuella Kraller), the former lead singer of Xandria. She has been trying to make a comeback to symphonic metal for years. So for her, this truly is a renewal or an opportunity “to find something again”. Munay Anaya sings elegantly on “Retrouvailles”, a song seemingly designed and customized perfectly for her voice. The warm symphonic and cinematic orchestration and keyboards surround Munay Anaya, as she sings her vocalizations. Like a morning sunrise song, this perfectly opens this album. It is one of my favorite songs on this album of perfect moods. Welcome back Manuella! It is so wonderful to hear your beautiful voice again…within this perfect setting.

“Together Again”, is full of Matias Bacoñsky’s piano playing, with strings and orchestration backing his delivery. A driving song welcoming the opportunity for people to re-unite. A very positive and uplifting mood and sound to this instrumental masterpiece.

“Hope”, provides a showcase for one of my other favorite female metal vocalists from the past, Marcela Bovio. She is well known for all of her past performances on many of Arjen Lucassen’s metal masterpieces, and for her own band Stream of Passion. Marcela’s voice elevates and reflects hope perfectly. Marcela’s other works have always referenced hope, so hope is indeed the perfect song for her vocalizations.
“Rise Again”, is filled with uplifting keyboards from Matias and symphonic orchestrations, filling the soundscape with wonder.

“Heart VS Mind”, is a deep contemplative piano song. It reflects the questions of following your heart over your mind, or maybe the other way around. Depending on your perspective in life. The strings and orchestrations fill the soundscape with beautiful instrumental music.

“Charmolypi”, literally the “Greek word that describes a feeling that combines joy and sadness, and cannot exist without both. It literally means “joy-filled mourning”. This song is a showcase for the Spanish, lead singer of the band Diabulus, Zuberoa Aznarez. Matias’s bold piano playing opens this powerful song of emotion, that fills with the blessing of hope that diminishes tragedy.

“Love Story”, is the perfect showcase for Xandria’s new, Greek, lead singer, Ambre Vourvahis. Amber is amongst the best female metal singers currently making new music in the world. Finding her was indeed a great discovery for Xandria. Her voice has lifted the level of their music, as she also does here, with this beautiful love song.

“Daydreamer”, is a piano solo from Matias combined with orchestration. Yes, indeed, a perfect song to daydream.

Ulli Perhonen has a history of creating vocalizations for the band, Blackbriar’s “Snow White Blood”. So, “Eye of the Storm”, was the perfect match for her voice. This song opens with a deeper and darker piano and orchestrated sound.

“Everything Ends”, is the album’s closer. It is also the longest song on the album, at over seven and half minutes. It has a somber opening with orchestration. Then Matias invigorates the sound with faster piano playing, amid surrounding orchestration, choirs and strings. The piano, at times sounds like continuous rainfall washing away the pain and sorrow of the past. A fitting way to close this amazing album of keyboards and master vocalizations from the leading female vocalists of the past 40 years.

Matias Bacoñsky has assembled and created one of the best albums of the New Year. New World, is a must purchase for anyone, who, like me, loves the piano and keyboards. But this album also has wonderful orchestration and symphonic and cinematic sounds that surround the glorious singers who make this work so important. Finally, bringing together these important and wonderful female metal voices to create this masterpiece, was a wonder in itself. The fact that they all participated was a unique and important event, to open the New Year. Thank you to Matias Bacoñsky for bringing all of this together so well, and making it sound so beautiful. One of the best instrumental albums you will hear this year.
