Lunar Tunes: Billy Yfantis Phases Into a New Musical Orbit

Billy Yfantis – New Moon (self-release, 2025)

Greek electronic music artist Billy Yfantis returns with New Moon, a masterful electronic music concept album inspired by the eight phases of the lunar cycle. Drawing from his lifelong interest in astronomy, Yfantis structures the first eight tracks around the moon’s shifting form, from the shadowy calm of the New Moon to the radiance of the Full Moon and its gradual waning.

The final four tracks shift focus, evoking the emotional and visual impression of the moon as a celestial body composed of light, dust, and shadow. Throughout the album, Yfantis brilliantly combines analog synthesizers, spellbinding ambient drones, and pulsing rhythms to craft immersive, space-themed electronic soundscapes.

His style nods to the spellbinding, propulsive synth-driven Berlin School style of Tangerine Dream; the cinematic, symphonic drama of Vangelis; and the accessible pioneering electronica spirit of Jean-Michel Jarre. Infused with krautrock’s analog warmth and updated with contemporary production, New Moon brilliantly bridges the best of the past with futuristic sounds.

Vasileios “Billy” Yfantis holds advanced degrees in computing science and e-government, but his creative pursuits extend well beyond academia. Active since the late 1990s, he began by experimenting with tape mixing and unconventional sound sources, including household appliances. Today, he continues to explore the boundaries of electronic music while also writing books on music, business, and technology, and speaking at scientific conferences across Europe.
