The 50th anniversary 3LP edition of Wish You Were Here features a collage-style cover. At its center is the classic artwork of two robotic hands shaking, split into four vivid quadrants: desert, ocean, sky, and sunset. Surrounding this emblem are colorful vintage tour stickers and backstage passes from Pink Floyd’s 1975 shows, all set against a black background resembling a worn road case.

Wish Come True: Pink Floyd Marks 50 Years Of ‘Wish You Were Here’

Pink Floyd will release a 50th-anniversary edition of Wish You Were Here on December 12 via Sony Music, spanning Deluxe Box Set, 3LP, 2CD, Blu-ray, and digital formats.

The campaign centers on six previously unreleased alternate versions and demos, including an early take of “Welcome to the Machine” titled “The Machine Song.” The digital edition adds the original 1975 album in its first Dolby Atmos mix by James Guthrie, plus 25 bonus tracks: nine studio rarities and 16 live recordings from the Los Angeles Sports Arena on April 26, 1975, taped by Mike Millard and restored and remastered by Steven Wilson.

Blu-ray includes three 1975 tour screen films and a short by Storm Thorgerson. The 3LP and 2CD editions pair the original album with the nine studio bonus tracks.

The Deluxe Box Set bundles the 2CD, Blu-ray, and 3LP on exclusive clear vinyl, and adds a fourth clear vinyl LP (Live At Wembley 1974), a replica Japanese 7-inch single of “Have a Cigar” b/w “Welcome to the Machine,” a hardcover book with unseen photographs, a comic-book tour program, and a Knebworth concert poster. Anniversary merchandise and limited editions will appear at PinkFloyd.com.

Pink Floyd – 50th-anniversary edition of Wish You Were Here boxed set

A previously unheard track, “The Machine Song (Demo #2, Revisited),” arrives alongside a lyric video as a preview of the set. Additional vault material includes “The Machine Song (Roger’s demo),” an instrumental mix of “Wish You Were Here” spotlighting David Gilmour’s pedal steel guitar, and—for the first time—a complete stereo “Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1–9)” mixed by James Guthrie.

Originally a multi-Platinum No. 1 on both sides of the Atlantic, Wish You Were Here followed The Dark Side of the Moon and cemented the band’s status. The record’s themes of absence, isolation, transience, and the music-industry critique remain intertwined with Hipgnosis visuals by Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey “Po” Powell.

Remembering that time, Hipgnosis’ Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell said: “In the 1970s, album covers were equally as important as the music, because the cover helped to sell the record. Record stores would carry 10,000 different images in album sleeves, so what we were doing had to look different and stand out amongst the crowd.

I remember turning around to Storm and saying, how are we going to set a man on fire? Because there was no digital way of doing it in those days. He said, Po, you’re just going to have to do it for real. That was it.

One has to remember that Pink Floyd were the only band on EMI and Capitol Records who had the rights to the creative – in terms of album cover – besides the Beatles. That’s why we were allowed to do what we wanted. It was brilliant. Just the same way that Pink Floyd were a very inventive band at the time, so were Hipgnosis. We were determined to keep that abstract, enigmatic image alive and hence, we were able to do that for Pink Floyd.”
