Australian synth-prog project The Orphaned Bee and instrumental post-rock band Solkyri have released a new collaborative single, “18oh4.” The track reimagines Solkyri’s “1804,” originally featured on the band’s Cranebrook EP, which arrived in February 2025 via Bird’s Robe Records.
While the source piece leaned on expansive ambient post-rock, “18oh4” shifts the material toward synth-driven progressive rock and adds vocoder-processed vocals.
The Orphaned Bee’s Brett Tollis produced the song. Ron Pollard mixed the single at Studio Sleepwalker’s Dread in North Dandalup, and Tim G Carr mastered it at Gnomelabs in Sydney.
The release continues a busy year for Tollis’ project. The Orphaned Bee’s debut EP, Thinking Without Language, was released February 28, 2025, through Bird’s Robe Records.
Solkyri, formed in 2006, returned after a five-year gap with Cranebrook, and have built their profile through multiple European tours and festival appearances.
