Adventure Returns With Remastered Prog Debut

Adventure – Adventure (Apollon Records Prog, 2025 reissue)

Norwegian band Adventure has reissued its self-titled debut album, Adventure this month. Originally released in 2000, the album has been remastered by Jacob Holm-Lupo and will be available as a double vinyl in a gatefold sleeve as well as on CD.

The record drew on classic symphonic progressive rock and plenty of hard rock, with clear nods to Kansas, Camel, Uriah Heep, and elements of folk music. Its positive reception at the time is often cited as one of the sparks for a renewed Norwegian prog-rock scene. Although the album contains elements of prog-rock, the hard rock riffs are widely present and too frequent for my taste.

Work on the album began in 1996 at Skansen Studios in Trondheim, Norway, and continued until November 1999. The band then released the finished recording in 2000 as their debut.

The lineup on Adventure features Odd-Roar Bakken (keyboards, acoustic guitar, mandolin, lead guitar, backing vocals), Terje Flessen (lead guitars, rhythm guitars, acoustic guitars, bass), and Vebjørn Moen (lead vocals, backing vocals). Guest contributions: Elisabeth Nilssen and Stine Mostervik on flutes, and Stein Egil Bratland on drums and backing vocals.

Discography: Adventure (2000); Beacon of Light (2009); Caught in the Web (2014); New Horizon (2019);
